The student went down to the wire, turning in her paper just as the class bell rang.

那学生在下课铃响起时的最后一刻才交上她的作业。

这个俚语最早源于赛马比赛。在赛马比赛时，裁判会在终点拉一根绳子，这样就能看出谁先到达终点。后来被用到各个领域之中，形容比赛势均力敌，时间紧迫。
