这个俚语从字面上理解意思为“不要往别人送你的马的嘴里看”。究竟是什么意思呢？原来，在西方有一种说法，从马的牙齿可以看出马的年龄。所以收到一匹马作礼物时，有些人就会通过看马的牙齿来判断马匹是否精良。但这是不礼貌且不正确的做法。因为不管别人送你什么，值多少钱，都是一份不能衡量的情谊。
