In this chapter，we will briefly review the different approaches of study on identity so as to better understand the nature of HK identity in this study and to draw out a working definition of HK identity. Then we will also trace the origin of critical discourse analysis and its present state which might help to present a clear theoretical framework from a pragmatic perspective for the present study. Finally，the perspective of the present research will be introduced with the previous review of the theories of identity and CDA，which provides a basis for working out the analytical and theoretical frameworks of the present research.
