折价券的来源有几种渠道：附在周日报纸、信箱中的广告邮件和其他的报刊中，或者附在商品本身供下次使用。有些超级市场也会设置折价券专用箱，让消费者将不需要的折价券收集在一处，供需要者自由选用。一般折价券的使用要依商品价格扣除折价券的面值；有些商店提供double coupon的策略，则可扣除折价券面值的两倍金额。使用折价券时应仔细衡量自己的需求，不要因为减价的诱惑，而买一些用不到也用不完的东西，反而浪费更多的金钱。
