在中国出门在外没钱是万万不能的，可是在美国，“有钱”也是万万不能的。为什么呢？因为在美国很少有人用现金交易，大多数交易都是用支票。为了适应这个现金越来越少的社会（Cash-less society），对于初到美国的人来说，去银行办理相关的支票账户以及储蓄账户手续是必不可少的一个环节。
Good morning, I'd like to open a new account. 早上好，我想新开一个账户。
这句话类似的说法还有：
·How are you today？I would like to open a new account. 今天怎么样？我想新开一个账户。
·Could I open a new account, please？ 我能新开一个账户吗？
这时对方可能会这样回答：
·Sure, I just need two forms of ID. 好的，我需要两张身份证明的表格就行。
Hello, could I start a new checking account？ 你好，我能新开一个活期账户吗？
如果想开一个别的账户：
·Hi there, I need to start a savings account. 你好，我需要开一个储蓄账户。
对方可能会这样回答：
·Yeah, just let me see your ID and Social Security Card, please. 好的，请把你的身份证和社保卡给我看看 。

类似的说法有：

这种业务手续比较简单：

Hi, I'd like to make a deposit. 嗨，我想存钱。
如果你想表达存钱的确切金额：
·Hey there, could I deposit 100 dollars？ 你好，我能存 10 美元吗？
回答：
·Sure, just give me the cash and fill out this form. 好的，把钱给我，填写这张表格。
·No problem, just fill this out. 没问题，把这个填写了就行。

这可能和中国不同，人家会要求：

这时对方会报出你需要还款的金额：

关于美国银行，留学生第一次接触到的便是学校所介绍的附近当地银行或BOA(Bank of America）。不管是美国当地银行还是美国几大著名银行，第一次申请一般会是借记卡（Debit Card）。信用卡只有等申请到SSN（Social Security Number社会保险号）才能办理。
美国留学生有几样东西是决不能丢的，护照、I-20、SSN，另外就是借记卡或信用卡。你或许会奇怪，信用卡或借记卡丢了取不出钱，对，没错，但在美国是可以随便刷卡的，收银员会问你要用的是信用卡还是借记卡（借记卡可以透支当信用卡使用），如果你说借记卡，那么需要输入4位密码； 但如果你说信用卡，最后签名即可。因此你的卡如果丢失了，别人可以签你的名字刷卡。
另外，在此建议大家不要轻易申请信用卡，因为很多银行的信用卡年费是很高的，有的甚至还有很多附加条款，留学生如果注意不到，有时候会很麻烦，甚至会吃官司。去美国携带钱，现金、电汇、旅行支票、信用卡存款等，一般额度大的需要跟学校确认，因为有时学校规定交款方式，甚至会规定MASTER CARD或VISA。除了现金外，本人常用的是电汇，这种方法速度快、手续费少，而且安全，但第一次去美国如果需要带大额度的钱，可以将钱存入国内信用卡内，但最好不要在美国用国内信用卡取款，因为手续费会非常高。
