Help me, I am lost.

Usually, when I get lost I am with my parents. Sometimes my father gets lost when he is driving somewhere. When that happens he stops someone and asks the way. People help us. They point to the street we need to drive along. They show him the way on a map.

Once when I was 10 years old, I couldn't find my mom in the grocery store. I started to cry and a lady grabbed my arm and started to take me away. I think she was just trying to help me, but I was scared.

After that, mom and I made a safety plan for what we do if we get lost from each other. It is this:

1. STOP!

2. Stand tall like a tree and go to the nearest place that is safe. A safe place is off the road when outside or with a worker when in a store.

3. Look for mom. Sometimes she is near and I am not really lost.

4. When I cannot see her, I should shout her name. “MOM!” My mother says it is okay to shout anywhere, even in a library, when I think I am lost.

5. Find a woman with children and ask for help. Say, “Excuse me. I have lost my mother. Please help me.”

6. When I cannot find a woman with a child, I should try to find someone who wor in the place where I am lost. I should go to the front of the line and talk to the cashier. I should ask the cashier for help or I should go to the ticket seller and ask that person for help.

7. Sometimes people try to take you away to help you. They might tell you to come see the manager. I should say, “No!” I should point to where I got lost and say, “I must stay here until my mother comes.”

8. I should ask the adult to call my mother's cell phone to tell her where I am so she can come get me.

Find the secret password.

Jamie is lost. He wants to find his mother. There is one word he can use that will make the adults find his mother. First, answer the four questions. Then write the four letters from the circles on a paper. Then use those four letters to make a word. The word you write is the secret password.
