Rules, rules, rules.

Everywhere I go there are rules. I don't like rules.

I like to play badminton. I play it all the time. Sometimes I play it in my bedroom. When I do that mom shouts, “Don't play inside.” I like to play with my little brother. He likes me to chase him, but mom shouts, “Don't run inside.” Mom has other rules like “Wash your hands before dinner” and “Don't jump on the bed”. I would like her to make a rule that says, “Eat ice cream every day.”

At school, there are lots and lots of rules. Even before we get to school there are rules such as “Wear your uniform” and “Don't talk to the school bus driver”. In the classroom there are signs. They read “Don't talk when the teacher is talking” and“Don't write in the books”. Every class has those rules. In our class, we have a rule that no other class has – “Don't sing.” That's a funny rule. Our teacher made that rule because Alicia wants to be a singer when she grows up. She sings everywhere she goes. The teacher did not like her to sing in class. Oh, and now there is one more rule! Last Monday a student set the garbage on fire in the bathroom. The new rule at our school is, “Don't play with fire.” I wish the new rule was, “Don't do homework.

My family went to the park and there were rules there too. There were signs that read “Park your car here”, so dad stopped the car in that place and we all got out. We passed a sign that read “Clean up after your dog”, but we don't have a dog so we didn't have to do that. We came to give bread to the ducks, but there was a sign that read “Don't feed the ducks”, so we took our bread home again. I think there should be a sign that reads, “Play and have fun.”

When I told dad that I didn't like rules he said there are rules at work too. He works at a factory with lots of machines. It is a dangerous place. Sometimes people get hurt because they touch the machines. Dad says there are signs that read, “Don't touch the machines” and “Be careful, it's dangerous”. Dad says the most important rule at work is “Be safe”. When people at work do as the rules tell them to do, they do not get hurt. I guess sometimes it is good to have rules.
