Dialogue

Listen to a conversation between two students.

Sarah: Hey, Peter! How are you doing?

Peter: Fine. How about you?

Sarah: Pretty good! Summer vacation is coming, and I’m really looking forward to it.

Peter: Oh man, I’m not.

Sarah: Oh yeah? Why’s that?

Peter: Well, to tell you the truth, I’m having a hard time deciding where to spend it.

Sarah: What are your options?

Peter: I have two plans. The first one is to go camping on the Golden seashore with my friends. The second one is to climb Ruji Mountain with them.

Sarah: Those both sound great. What’s the problem?

Peter: Um. Well, I’d like to go mountain climbing. I think it will be an adventurous trip. But we will have to stay on the mountain for several nights. I’m not looking forward to freezing in a tent up there.

Sarah: I see your point.

Peter: Besides, while we’re sleeping, we might get attacked by dangerous animals like bears or snakes.

Sarah: If you’re worried about that, why not just spend time by the seashore instead?

Peter: Yeah, the seashore is a cool place, especially during the summer. You can sit on the balcony of a hotel and enjoy the sunshine. You don’t have to worry about where you need to go or what you have to prepare for. And if you get bored sitting in the sun, you can go outside and play volleyball with the other visitors, or go diving in the ocean.

Sarah: That sounds great. Problem solved, right?

Peter: Well, there’s just one problem. During that time of the year, the wind from the sea is really dry and irritates my skin. Last year, I went there with my close friends. We only spent a few days there, but I developed a terrible rash. It was really uncomfortable and painful.

Sarah: Well, that’s definitely a problem. So what are you gonna do? Summer break is almost here, you’d better make a decision soon.

Peter: I know. Anyway, thanks, Sarah!
