How Can Psychology Serve Community Development?

Abstract This article focuses on how psychology can serve communities from both the macro and the micro perspectives.The macro approach is concerned with the whole community or the psychology and behavior of most members in a community，the theme of which is the psychology culture of a community.This，for example，includes the exploration into how to carry forward outstanding traditional Chinese culture，how to nurture and carry forward core value views in socialism，the sense of community，and the awareness of environmental protection.The micro approach is concerned with the psychology and behavior of individuals or small groups in a community.For example，it may be the exploration into psychological health services for disadvantaged groups and for individuals at different life stages.It also consists of cultivating groups of well-structured community workers who are competent and capable of providing psychological health services.To carry out studies in community psychology in China，we should know the realities in communities and develop original constructs on the basis of Chinese culture，and we are supposed to enhance the academic quality through multiple methods.The purpose of such endeavor is to serve for the social development of China and do better for national interests and people's livelihood.As a result，we can do our best for the Chinanization of psychology.
