物体的形态是由线条构成的，人们往往也会根据这些线条的排列和组合去感知物体。平行排列的线条往往会带给我们秩序井然的感觉，但如果在这些平行线条上无次序地添加其他线条，马上就会让人觉得非常混乱。视觉上的轻重对比在景观中有很重要的作用，如果在规划庭园的一侧添加一个方形或者圆形，很容易就会将人们的目光汇聚至此，而在另一端也添加一个同样的方形或圆形，立马又会产生一种对称、均衡的效果。
至于物体的形状，就取决于其发挥的功能和选用的材质了。形状细长的物体，可以选用木质材料和金属材料（或者将之切割使用）；形状低矮的物体，则可以选用一些陶瓷制品（如花盆），或水泥制成的花池等。
圆形、矩形和三角形是最基本的形状，其他形状均以此为基础变化而来，每种形状都有自己的独特个性。由于这些几何形状本身简单明了，在确定各要素的关系上具有严格的制约作用，因此，这些形状被广泛应用于各个设计领域之中。熟练掌握这些基本形状，在设计庭园的空间布局上就可以创造出多种不同形式的功能空间。
Based on the theory that lines make shapes, people perceive objects by the permutations and combinations of lines. Parallel lines make us feel well-ordered,
while adding some other lines promiscuously on it will makes it a mass immediately. On the other hand, visual contrast is also important in landscape. If we put a square or rounded shape at one side of the garden, we can easily attract people’s notice;however, if we put an object of the same shape on the other side of the garden, the landscape becomes symmetrical and harmonious soon.
As for the shape of the object, it depends on the functions it owns and the materials it is. You can choose wood or metal (or just cut it) to make a long and thin object, while choosing some ceramic (like pots) or cement framed flower bed to form a low object.
Every shape has its own features and round, rectangle and triangle are the elementary shapes that provide an alter foundation for the others. Since all these geometries are clear enough to define the relationship of design elements strictly, they have been applied in various design fields, and you can make many kinds of function spaces as you well acquainted and deal with them.
圆形给人以完美的感受，它的魅力在于简洁、统一和整体，具有外形小、体积大、包容感强的特点。在庭园设计中圆形的应用很广，如在铺地图案中，圆形可以排列成一行，相邻的圆环互相重叠，构成对称的图案；在景墙或者庭园入口，也可以设计一个圆形的拱门。一些圆柱形的立体构件也广泛应用于庭园中，例如建筑立柱、圆柱形的花盆等。
Being pithy, integrate and unitary, roundness has always been giving people a perfect experience. It is small in size but large in volume and is strong in containing, and it is widely used in garden design. On pavage, rounds can be lined in a row by overlapping one another and form a symmetrical pattern;at the entrance of the wall sign or the garden, it can be designed as an arch door. In addition, some cylindrical constructions are also popular in gardening as columns or cylindrical fowerpots.
矩形是最简单和最有用的设计图形，在庭园空间设计中也是最常见的组织形式。在一个庭园里，可以将小区域设计成矩形，也可以将树篱围起的花坛设计成矩形，还可以在其中围出一块矩形的中心区域，用来摆设各种装饰小品，甚至还可以把一块区域分隔成几个更小的矩形空间，以增加其游玩的趣味性。
As the most simple and helpful design pattern, rectangle is the most common organizational form in garden space design. A small feld and the fower bed surrounding by quick-fence in the garden can be shaped rectangular;a central rectangular area can be framed to place some little adornments;a big area can be divided into several small rectangle spaces to add interest to the garden.
三角形具有结构稳定和外形突出的特点，同时也给人纯粹、简单的感觉。多个三角形有规律的组织在一起会带有一种运动的趋势，在庭园的道路铺装上有序列性设计多个三角形会在视觉上产生动感的延伸效果，树池上的设计也是如此。
Triangle is stable in structure and sharp in shape, along with pureness and simplicity. It shows a trend of movement by ordering a seires of triangles regulariy and a dynamic extending effect by using triangles with sequentiality on the path paving and tree grate.

螺旋形是圆形的一中变形。庭院中常用一些钢条制作的螺旋形配件进行装饰，还有些植物也可以修剪成螺旋形，比如修剪黄杨等。攀缘植物支架的一部分也可以做成螺旋形，形成一处螺旋形的植物小景。在水景方面，我们可以设计一些螺旋形水路；而在地面铺设方面，则可用瓷砖铺成螺旋形图案。此处，日式庭院枯山水景观中也有用沙砾耙出螺旋形图案的例子。
Spiral is variant of roundness. We often use some stee-bar-made spiral plants, like cliped box, to ddecorate the garden, even part of the trestle of climbing plants can be an interest by making it spiral. Also, you can figure a spiral waterway in a waterscape, and spiral ceramic tile patterns in paving. Such kind of design also can be seen in a Japanese dry garden landscape by raking a helix from grit.
