Tarsu is a 63,000m² of shopping and entertainment center, which is located in Tarsus, Turkey. The two-storey building with a basement floor has 75 shops with large scaled shopping and entertainment units, such as, a hypermarket, a technology shop, an entertainment center and cinemas, making it the largest shopping center in the city. The building's first floor volume extends over the one belonging to the ground floor, referring to the protrusion of upper volume to the street at traditional Tarsu houses. These extended volumes and light boxes overlap with each other with a peculiar three dimensional dynamism, addressing the overlapping of diverse histories, cultures and social environment that make up of the unique richness of the city. They are covered with different materials, which are glass, terracotta baguettes, sandstone, onyx, aluminum composite panels and aluminum sheet. They are lit by LED lighting elements at night, with their colors changing at sequential time periods, enhancing the allusion to the colorful palette that make up of the Tarsus urban culture.

Water is a prominent element affecting the history of Tarsus. The city was founded on the meeting point of city harbor with the river that flows between Toros Mountains that the city reclined upon geographically. Water brings life, trading and soul to the city. Nature, culture and water are intertwined throughout the city's history. The name "Tarsu" is selected for it's wordily allusion to "water"; hence, "su" means "water" in Turkish. "Tarsu" denotes the meeting of Tarsus city with water. Hence, water elements are everywhere; there are nine pools and three fountains at the outside and the inside of the building. A massive aquarium meets the visitor at the food court of the upper floor.

The building's design, coupling with its technology, enable the utilization of natural ventilation as well. Linear windows at the roof are designed according to standard requirements for natural ventilation. At daylight, natural ventilation dampers automatically close when their censors detect a decrease in the interior oxygen quality. At night, these dampers automatically open to provide cooling of the interiors, including that of shops. The shop owners do not need to utilize extra energy for ventilation when they come in the morning. That condition decreases the energy used for cooling of the interiors.

Pools that do not have flitration and circulation systems require water replenishment every week. Tarsu pools have electronically operated flitration and circulation systems that require water replenishment in 3month, rather than weekly periods. That enables reduction of water consumption at a significant degree. The pools outside the building operate with heat and wind censors so that the water loss is reduced to minimum.

L4Z+lvy1nT/0aB9Vpz/iyhACWk+xAgSWFNPzeyXTmiQvIBMqeCvagjvE8GpIyPBj
