安格斯和猫

Each day as Angus grew older he grew longer but not much higher. Scottie dogs grow that way.

Now as Angus grew older and longer he learned MANY THINGS. He learned it is best to stay in one’s own yard and

日子一天天过去，安格斯慢慢长大了，他的身子变长了不少，但没有长得很高。这种苏格兰犬长得就是如此。

随着年龄变大，个儿也长了，安格斯懂的事理儿也更多了。他知道，最好呆在自家院子里。

FROGS can jump but

他也知道，青蛙会跳，

NOT to jump after them and

可别跟在青蛙后面跳，不然……

BALLOONS go

他还知道，气球能飞，

POP!

砰！

Angus also learned NOT to lie on the sofa and NOT to take SOMEBODY ELSE’S food and things like that.

安格斯还知道，不能躺在沙发上，不能抢别人吃的东西，诸如此类的事理儿……

But there was SOMETHING outdoors Angus was very curious about but had NEVER learned about, and that was

但是屋外有个家伙，真的让安格斯很好奇。他以前从没听说过这家伙，那就是——

CATS.

The leash was TOO short.

猫。

可是拴在他身上的狗绳太短了。

Until one day WHAT should Angus find INDOORS lyingon the SOFA but a strange little CAT!

Angus came closer—

The CAT sat up.

Angus Came Closer—

有一天，安格斯在屋里发现，沙发上躺着一只陌生的小猫！

安格斯靠近一点——

猫坐了起来。

安格斯又走近一点，

Up jumped the CAT onto the arm of the sofa. Angus came closer and—

猫一下子跳到了沙发的扶手上。

安格斯再靠近一点，

SISS-S-S-S-S-S!!!

That little CAT boxed Angus’s ears!

嘶－嘶！

小猫用爪子朝安格斯的耳朵用力一击！

Woo-oo-oof _ Woo-oo-oof!

Said Angus.

Up jumped the CAT onto the sofa back, up to the mantel—and Angus was not high enough to reach her!

呜－呜－呜弗－呜－呜－呜弗！

安格斯抗议了。

小猫又跳回到沙发上，蹦到壁炉台上——安格斯没长这么高，够不着她了！

But at lunch time down she came to try and take Angus’s food—Though not for long.

到了吃午饭的时候，猫儿又下来了，想吃安格斯的食物——尽管她只吃了一会儿。

Up she jumped onto the table, and Angus was not high enough to reach her!

她又跳到了桌子上，但安格斯没长这么高，够不着她！

At nap time there she was sitting in Angus’s own special square of sunshine—

当安格斯打盹时，猫又占据了安格斯专门晒太阳的方块地儿——

WASHING HER FACE,

洗把脸儿，

though not for long

然而只呆了一会儿，

Up she jumped onto the window sill,And Angus was not high enough to reach her!

她又跳到窗台上，安格斯没长这么高，又够不着了！

For THREE whole days Angus was very busy chasing THAT CAT, but she always went up out of reach until on the fourth day he chased her UP-THE-STAIRS into the BEDROOM

整整三天时间，安格斯一直忙着追逐那猫儿，但她总是跳到安格斯够不着的地方。直到第四天，安格斯在楼上将她追到了一间卧室里，

and she was completely GONE!

Angus looked under the bed—No CAT was there.

可是猫儿彻底不见了！

安格斯朝床底下看了看，根本没有什么猫啊！

Angus looked out of the window

安格斯望向窗外，

into his yard.

看了看院子里，

into the next yard—no CAT could he see ANYWHERE.

然后又看了看隔壁家的院子——根本见不着猫的影子。

Angus went DOWN-THE-STAIRS.

He looked on the sofa—no CAT was there.

He looked on the mantel—no CAT was there.

Angus looked on the table and

安格斯下楼来，

他看了看沙发上——没见到猫儿。

又瞅了瞅壁炉台上——也不见猫儿。

安格斯巡视桌上、

on the window sills—No CAT was indoors ANYWHERE.

窗台上——屋里哪个地方也找不着猫！

So Angus was ALL-ALONE. There was no CAT to box his ears. There was no CAT to take his food. There was no CAT to sit in his sunshine. There was no CAT to chase away. So Angus was ALLALONE and he had NOTHING-TO-DO!

Angus missed the little CAT.

安格斯这下彻底孤独了。再没猫来打他的耳朵，再没有猫偷吃他的东西，再没有猫抢占他晒太阳的地儿，也再没有猫来追闹了。安格斯彻底孤独了，闲得无事可做。

安格斯心里惦记起小猫了。

But—at lunch time he heard this noise:

PURRRRR—

但是——到了午餐时间，他听到了一种响声：

喵呜－喵呜……

And there she was again.

And Angus knew and the CAT knew that Angus knew that—

猫儿又来了。

安格斯知道猫的心事，猫儿也知道安格斯心里想些什么。

Angus was GLAD the cat came back!

安格斯看到猫儿回来了，真的很高兴！
