美国人介绍朋友认识时，通常是连名带姓一起介绍。他们不常使用“Mr.”“Ms.”“Mrs.”或者“Miss”，美国人家人朋友间不喜欢太正式称呼。如果您这样称呼Hello, Mr.Clark，他们会直爽的说“just call me Dean”（直接叫我狄恩）。同样，美国人也常会直接称呼你的名字。他直呼你名是因为你们相互认识了，而不是不尊重你。
当介绍有关职业身份的人时，一般要加上他们的称呼。例如，我们要称呼“Dr.Stewart”（斯图尔特医生）“Judge Brown”（布朗法官）、“Dean White”（怀特院长）、“Captain Snyder”（斯奈德上尉）等。
当然，如果你不知道对方的名字时，出于礼貌，可以称呼男士为“Sir”，称呼女士为“Lady”或“Madam”。
