许多外国人，喜欢纹身，追求个性，表达自我。纹身又称刺青，是留在人们身上的信念符号，或是追求的寄托，是理想的表达，是青春的图腾。纹身有的是花草虫鱼的逼真图案，有的是某个个性语言文字，展示纹身爱好者的个性和气质。

有位旅美华人一次去观看演唱会，看见前方有几个浑身上下都布满纹身的西裔青年小伙儿，其中一位男生在腰臀部位纹上“瓦斯”二字。这个华人和朋友对这个纹身嗤之以鼻。该男生注意到了他们的议论，他说他的叔叔也纹上这两个字，他觉得很有型，随之仿效，虽不知道这两个字意思，但觉得好看就行。当熟悉中文的华人告诉他这个词表示“Gas”的时候，他很惊讶，目瞪口呆，因为“Gas”有“放屁，排气”的意思。朋友们闻之立刻笑到人仰马翻，他一人红着脸，颇为尴尬。
