She was born in 1942，and was awarded a Ph.D.in speech-language pathology from the University of Pittsburgh.She came to Emerson as an assistant professor in Communication Sciences and Disorders in 1970.In 1984 she assumed the position of graduate dean and was promoted to Vice President and Academic Dean in 1987.She served as Interim President during the 1992 academic year.She assumed the presidency of Emerson College as its first female president in September 1993.
