Being "the new kid" is never very much fun. Kyle was the new kid this year and he wasn't very happy about it. Actually, he wasn't happy at all. He was so sad to leave his friends and his home and move to a new town. He doesn't know anybody there and he doesn't have any friends. He wishes every night that he can move back to his hometown and be with his friends again.
On his first day in the new school, he looked sadder than the saddest boy you have ever seen. Nobody talked to him all morning. When it was time to have lunch, Kyle sat all by himself. No one wanted to sit and eat with him. He just sat and thought about having lunch with his friends in his old school cafeteria. They used to laugh and make jokes all the time. Suddenly, he saw a girl with a great, big smile walking in his direction. He started to feel a little nervous and moved his legs uncomfortably.
"Hi! My name is Lila," she said, as she sat down across from him. "It's nice to meet you!" she said with a smile. Kyle could feel his mouth start smiling too.

到新学校的第一天，他看上去比你见过的最伤心的男孩还要难过。整个上午，没有一个人和他说话。到了午餐时间，凯尔自己一个人坐着。没有人想和他坐在一起吃饭。他坐在那里，回想着在原来学校的食堂和朋友们一起吃饭的情景。那时候，他们常常一起开怀大笑，总是在开玩笑。突然，他看到一个带着大大的灿烂微笑的女孩向他走来。他开始感到有点紧张，双腿不安地动了动。
“你好！我叫莉拉，”她边说，边在他的对面坐下，“很高兴见到你！”她微笑着说。凯尔觉得他自己也开始微笑了。
