Not from the stars do I my judgement pluck,

And yet methinks I have astronomy;

But not to tell of good or evil luck,

By oft predict that I in heaven find.

But from thine eyes my knowledge I derive,

And, constant stars, in them I read such art

As truth and beauty shall together thrive

If from thyself to store thou wouldst convert:

诗人懂得占星术，但不能预言别人的命运。诗人的爱友的眼睛就是星辰，诗人只能从这种星辰中看出：他爱友如不留下子孙，他的美即将同他共亡。——第九、十行“知识”、“学问”：中世纪学校中教所谓“四学”即算术、几何、音乐与天文，“三学”即文法、伦理与修辞；天文学即星学，在当时为一种进步的科学。
