《大学英语课程教学要求》对四级词汇量的要求是：掌握的词汇量应达到4795个单词和700个词组（含中学应掌握的词汇），其中约2000个单词为积极词汇，即要求学生能够在认知的基础上在口头和书面表达两个方面熟练运用的词汇。
我们根据词汇表中的所要求的词组，结合积极词汇的重要用法，以及历年大学英语四级考试翻译题型中的所考词汇，组成下表：
