Ladies gentlemen, my fellow schoolmates：
It was four years ago that every one of us came from all over China and formed a new collective. As young people, it's very easy for us to communicate. It was in the past four years that we shoundour ambition. It was in the past four years that we worried. It was in the past four years that we were content. It was in the past four years that we were vexed. It was in the past four years that we were friendly and lonely ... and it was in the past four years that we studied, lived and respected each other with genuineness and with our ambitions. Nothing in the world is more significant and we miss all of these experiences.
Four years seems very long but four years also seems very short. From now on, we all will enter the real world where we will face many opportunities. We will shoulder heavy responsibilities; we will work diligently; and we will expect to be informed of good news from one another. Now, I beg you all to cherish the occasion; to remember the names, appearance and the character of the people around you. We are very closely linked no matter where our futures take us. Lets cherish our memories of times. Spent together.

as用作连词引导时间状语从句
as与when，while都是引导时间状语从句的从属连词，含义都是“当……的时候”。但它们有区别：用when时，从句的动作可以与主句的动作同时发生，也可以先于主句的动作发生；用while时，从句的动作为一过程，主句动作与从句动作同时进行或在从句动作过程中发生；用as时，主句和从句的动作同时发生，具有延续的含义。
例如： It was snowing when he arrived at the construction site.
他到达工地时，天正在下雪。
He was watching TV while his mother was cooking.
他母亲做饭时他在看电视。
You will grow wiser as you grow older.
你会随着年龄的增长而越来越聪明。
as用作连词引导原因状语从句
as，because，since都可以表示因果关系，连接原因状语从句，含义是“因为，由于”，但它们有区别：because表示的语气最强；as一般放在句首，语气较弱，较口语化；since常常用在书面语中，表示多为对方已知的、或稍加分析便可得知的原因，有时可译作“既然”。
例如： He will succeed because he is in earnest.
他一定会成功，因为他很认真。
Since you are so sure of it, he will believe you.
既然你对此如此有把握，他会相信你的。
As rain has fallen, the air is cooler.
因为下过雨，空气比较清爽。
as作连词引导让步状语从句
as与although（或though），however（或no matter how）等都可以引导让步状语从句，含义是“虽然，尽管”，但它们有区别：although语气稍正式些，可放在句首，也可放在句中，主句中不能再用but，但可以用yet；as所表示的语气较强，引导的让步状语从句用倒装语序；however引导让步状语从句时，它的后面可跟形容词或副词，也要用倒装语序。
例如： Although he is quite old, he still jogs every day.
他虽然年纪相当大，仍然每天慢跑。
Strange as it may seem, nobody was injured in the accident.
这次意外虽然显得令人不可思议，却没有人受伤。
However hard he may try, he will not attain his goal.

In the past four years, what I have contemplated I have done and learned, or whether I have enhanced my abilities or have been able to take responsibility for myself. All these questions have come to mind and then I recall the things I have done. Now I don't have all the answers. But one thing is sure, that is, the school has made a deep impression on me and left her mark. I could can say with prble that this school has taught me self-reliance, unity and responsibility and these qualities have been essential for my growth. whether的用法
whether 和 if 都可以作“是否”解，但二者在具体使用时有一定的区别。
一般情况下，if 和 whether 均可引导宾语从句。
例如： He asked me whether/if we wanted a drink.
他问我们是否要喝点东西。
He didn't know whether/if she was a nurse.
他不知道她是否是一位护士。
但在有些动词后多用whether 不用if。
例如： We discussed whether we should close the shop.
我们讨论了是否该关闭那家商店。（比用 if 正规）
当使用 if 会引起歧义时应用whether 。如: “我不知道是否在下雪”应译为I don't know whether it is snowing, 而不说I don't know if it is snowing（因为if也可表示条件）。
另外，whether 引导的从句的谓语动词不能用否定形式，但 if 引导的从句的谓语可以用否定形式。
例如：I don't care whether it doesn't rain.（错误）
I don't care if it doesn't rain.（正确）
当用or提出两种选择时，whether更常用,尤其是在正式文体中。
例如： Let me know whether you can come or not.
告诉我你来还是不来。
I wonder whether it is big enough or not.
我不知道它是否够大。
当然，在口语中有时也说“if you can come or not”，但whether后面可以直接跟or not, if后则不行。如上句可改为：
Let me know whether or not you can come.
在介词后只能用whether，不能用 if。
例如： There was a big argument about whether we should move to a new house. 关于我们是否应搬新家发生了激烈的争论。It depends on whether the letter arrives in time.
这取决于信是否来得及时。
在带to的不定式前只能用whether，不能用 if。
例如：I cannot decide whether to get married now or wait.
我不能决定是该现在就结婚还是等待。
She hasn't decided whether to go or not.
她还没决定去还是不去。
在引导主语从句，表语从句和同位语从句时，一般只能用whether不用 if。
例如： Whether it is true or not remains a question.（主语从句）那是不是真的还是个问题。
The question is whether the man can be trusted.（表语从句）问题是那个人是否可以信任。
引导表语从句时，只有在特别非正式的语体中可用if。
例如： Have you discussed the question whether you have enough time to do the work?（同位语从句）你们有没有讨论过是否有足够的时间来做这项工作？
以上是 if 和whether表示是否之意时的用法区别。此外 if 还有“假如”之意，引起条件状语从句; 而whether另有“不管，无论”之意，引导让步状语从句。
例如： If you want to learn a musical instrument, you have to practice more.（条件状语从句）如果你想学习一种乐器，你得多练习。
You may leave the table if you have finished eating.
（条件状语从句）你要是吃饱了，就可以离席了。
Whether it rains or not, we'll go camping.
（让步状语从句）无论下不下雨，我们都要去露营。
总之，尽管 if 和whether在不少的情况下可通用，但二者的区别也是显而易见的，在使用中需要严格加以辨析。
