形态特征：体侧扁，口端位，口裂斜。下颌中央具丘突，和上颌中央的凹陷相吻合。背部平直，鳞片大，易脱落。侧线在胸部上方缓慢向下弯。腹棱完全。背鳍 iii-7；臀鳍 iii-17~22。侧线鳞 46~55。体银白色。
生态习性：生活在江河、湖泊水域，喜集群于浅水区的水面游动，行动迅速，飘忽不定，故有“飘鱼 ”之称。杂食性，食昆虫、虾、高等植物碎屑。产卵期为 5~6月，在江河中产漂流性卵。
地理分布：分布在黄河水系及附属水体。
经济价值：宁夏小型土著鱼类，可食用，有一定的经济价值。

MORPHOLOGICAL CHARACTERISTICS: Compressed body; terminal mouth awry rima oris; there is a buninoid evection in the center of lower jaw, which anastomose with the dent at the center of upper jaw; flat and straight back; big scales which are easy to be desquamated; side line is slowly bent downwards from upper portion of thoracic region; completed abdomen scutes; dorsal fin iii-7; anal fin iii-17~22; scales in lateral line 46~ 55; body is silvery white.
ECOLOGICAL HABITS： It lives in rivers and lakes, and likes to swim in the surface of wa-tersplash zone in group. It moves and drifts very fast, so it is called Piaoyu; it is an om-nivory fish, which eats insects, shrimps, and debris of higher plants. The spawning season is in May and June, and spawns floating eggs in rivers.
GEOGRAPHICAL DISTRIBUTION: It is distributed in the Yellow River and its tributaries in Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region.
ECONOMIC VALUE： It is a minitype local edible fish with a certain economic value.
