形态特征：体型长，略呈圆筒状，后部稍侧扁。腹部圆，无腹棱。头较小，头顶较平坦。吻端位，呈弧形。须 2对，甚短小。眼较大，侧位。背鳍 iii-7；臀鳍 iii-8；胸鳍 i-16。侧线鳞 46～48。眼缘上半部有一块红斑。体背青灰色，腹部淡黄色。背鳍深灰色，尾鳍后缘呈黑色，其他各鳍灰黄色。
生态习性：中上层杂食性鱼类。很少结群活动。除摄食水边嫩草外，亦吃水生昆虫、软体动物及小鱼。2龄性成熟。4～8月份产卵， 7月份为繁殖盛期。
地理分布：黄河宁夏段及其附属水域皆有分布。
经济价值：黄河宁夏段的捕获量仅次于鲤鱼、鲫鱼和鲶鱼，养殖价值较高。

MORPHOLOGICAL CHARACTERISTICS: Long body in cylinder shape slightly with com-pressed rear portion; round abdomen without abdomen scutes; small head; flat vertex; terminal mouth in arc shape; it has two pairs of beard which is very short; bigger eyes in lateral position; dorsal fin iii-7; anal fin iii-8; pectoral fin i-16; scales in lateral line 46～48; there is a piece of red spot at the half upper part of eyes; body and its back are caesious; abdomen is light yellow; dorsal fin is plumbeous; posterior border of anal fin is black, and other fins are isabelline.
ECOLOGICAL HABITS： It is a middle and upper strautum omnivore fish, and seldom in group. Besides the young grass of waterside, it also eats aquatic insects, mollusk and ba-by fishes. It matures at the age of 2, and spawns from April to August. The rush breed-ing period is in July.
GEOGRAPHICAL DISTRIBUTION: It is distributed in the Yellow River and its tributaries in Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region.
ECONOMIC VALUE： The catching-quantity of it in the Yellow River in Ningxia Hui AuK-tonomous Region is only next to that of common carp, crusian carp, and bullhead cat-fish, which has a hight culture value.
