形态特征： 体型长，呈圆筒状，腹圆无棱，尾部侧扁。头顶颇宽。吻短而圆钝。口端位，无须。鳞片颇大，圆形。背鳍iii- 7；臀鳍iii- 8。侧线鳞36~48。体呈茶黄色，腹部灰白色，胸、腹鳍略带灰黄色，其他各鳍色较暗。

生态习性： 喜栖息于江河、湖泊等水域的中、下层及近岸多水草区域。性情活泼，游泳迅速，常成群觅食，生长快。典型的草食性鱼类，人工养殖可摄食配合饲料。江湖洄游性鱼类，产漂浮性卵。

地理分布： 原产于长江水系。20 世纪50 年代引入宁夏。

经济价值： 是水产养殖当家品种之一，经济价值很高。但在自然水域应控制放养量，避免水域水质富营养化发生。

MORPHOLOGICAL CHARACTERISTICS: Long body in cylinder shape; round abdomen without scutes; compressed caudal portion; broad vertes; short and obtuse round mouth; terminal mouth without beard; big scales in round shape; dorsal fin iii-7; anal fin iii-8; scales in lateral line 36 ~48; body is tea -yellow; abdomen is offwhite; pectoral fin and ventral fin is slightly isabelline; other fins are in dark color.

ECOLOGICAL HABITS：It likes to live in middle and understratum water area of rivers and lakes, and in shore water area with much aquatic weeds; lively natured and swim promptly, it often forages in group and grows fast; it is a typical herbivorous fish; the cultured fish may eat artificial mixed feed; it is a migrating fish in rivers and lakes, which spawns the floating eggs.

GEOGRAPHICAL DISTRIBUTION: It is originated from the Changjiang River system, and was introduced in Ningxia in 1950's.
