形态特征：口裂大，延至眼的后缘，下颌前端有一突起，两侧各有一凹陷，与上颌的凹凸处相嵌合，形如马嘴。无须。眼小。雄鱼臀鳍前部鳍条显著伸长，形成雌雄鱼间的区别。背鳍 iii-7；臀鳍 iii-9。侧线鳞 40~46。体背部灰绿色，体侧和腹部银白色，体侧有垂直的条纹。

生态习性：中上层肉食性鱼类，栖息于水温较低的流水中。2龄性成熟，繁殖期3~6月，产漂浮性卵。

地理分布：宁夏黄河水系有分布。

经济价值：宁夏中小型土著鱼类，有一定经济价值。

MORPHOLOGICAL CHARACTERISTICS: Big rima oris which extends to posterior edge of eyes; there is a evection at the frontal part of lower jaw, and a dent at each side of body, which tumble in sagging in upper jaw and horse-mouth likes. No beard; small eyes; the fin ray at the frontal part of male annl fin stretches remarkably, which distinguishes the male from female; dorsal fin iii-7; anal fin iii-9; scales in lateral line 40~46; its back is grey green, body sides and abdomen is silvery white, the vertical stripes can be seen on body sides.

ECOLOGICAL HABITS：It is a middle and upper statum carnivorous fish, which inhabits in flowing water at low temperature. It matures at year of 2, the breeding period is from March to June, and spawns floating eggs.

GEOGRAPHICAL DISTRIBUTION: It is distributed in water system of the Yellow River in Ningxia.
