- “双凤奇缘”又名“昭君传”。写王昭君及其妹赛昭君和番事。汉元帝派毛延寿选美女人宫。毛延寿选得绝色美人王昭君，因素贿不成，设计将昭君打入冷宫，另以鲁姓女代之。后毛延寿诡计揭穿，鲁妃自杀，汉元帝专宠昭君。毛延寿见阴谋败露，惧罪逃往番邦。番王发兵攻汉，汉元帝忍痛以昭君和番。昭君到了番邦，借番王之手除去奸贼毛延寿。最后自投白洋河，以死全节操。昭君死后，昭君之妹赛昭君被召入宫，被册封为皇后。番王再次兴兵伐汉，曾得异人传授、武艺超群的赛昭君大破番兵，奏凯回朝。赛昭君喜生太子。因前有昭君后有赛昭君同侍汉帝，故书名“双凤奇缘”。

The Introduction to A Book of Scoundrels states, "How shall you contemplate with indifference the career of an artist whom genius or good guidance has compelled to exercise his peculiar skill, to indulge his finer aptitudes A masterly theft rises in its claim to respect high above the reprobation of the moralist. The scoundrel, when once justice is quit of him, has a right to be appraised by his actions, not by their effect and he dies secure in the knowledge that he is commonly more distinguished, if he be less loved, than his virtuous contemporaries." People discussed in the work include Captain Hind, Moll Cutpurse and Jonathan Wild, Ralph Briscoe, Thomas Pureney, Vaux, George Barrington, Deacon Brodie and Charles Peace, The man in the grey suit, and Monsieur L'abbe.
